A wonderful friend leaves us all too soon

The Americans have gone home, but followup work continues, led by Ericka Lock.  Here's an update.

Rome logs the final post from Peru!

Our Lesotho friends return home, and Montezuma's revenge takes hold.

In a single day, the entire floor of the community center gets poured.

We celebrated the holidays Peru style, while continuing to make great progress on the community center and terraces.

With the coming of the Lesotho friends, the second terrace is poured.

Up go the beams of the roof...with some difficulty.

After the foundation cures the building's columns are set in place.

With the help of a workforce, both American and Peruvian, the trenches get built and the foundation gets poured.

Rome and Emily try out the local food while preparing concrete schedules and rebar placement.

The shipping container finally arrives and the sandbox is fully stocked with tools.

The locals chip in on the sandbox while Rome explains her theories on clean worksites.

Rome stays with a friend and collects supplies while the living quarters (casitas) are built.

The backhoe and running water are delivered to the jobsite.

While taking an afternoon walk, a Seattle Times photographer spotted our container being loaded for Peru.  He called a Times writer and an article was born.

The container is packed and sent, on its way to the jobsite.

Final thank you's from a wonderful project.

All projects are wrapped up (latrines, water retention, irrigation, etc) and hundreds attend the Njta-Peli Hall dedication ceremony.

Sound systems come to the hall in preparation for the ceremony, and final touches are put on the plumbing for the students' rooms

More work on the latrines for the students and the floor and stage are finalized.

A cow falls into the developing septic tank holes, thankfully not hurting herself or slowing down progress, but the stage-builders meet their own set of issues.

The boys go on a shopping excursion in the holiday season

New everywhere: new mattresses, new burn pit, new toilets, new water system, new electrical system, all the joy of the students.

With the holidays approaching, Rome, the volunteers and students are still hard at work.

The sprinkler system installation begins and decisions are finalized on the hall walls.
